Shake It Update 8/23/18: Celebrate The King Event; New From DeVotchKa, Blood Orange, Devil Makes Three

This week brings us new releases from DeVotchKa, Blood Orange, and The Devil Makes Three.

Of course those are just the highlights, so please see just down below for the rest of this week's new titles and reissues.

Celebrate The King is this Saturday! The gala is at Memorial Hall, better get your tix now if you haven't already! Citybeat has a detailed overview of all upcoming events in celebration of 75 years of King Records.

New local vinyl of note:

A new LP from Brian Olive!
Living On Top is the new self-released LP of from the Grammy-winning former member of The Greenhornes and The Soledad Brothers, available in three different colors of vinyl.

A new split 7" by Wussy and The Paranoid Style!
Released by Bar/None Records, with 'New American Standard' by Wussy, and 'Absolute Cadavers' by DC Garage rockers Paranoid Style.

Wussy's latest LP What Heaven Is Like is here!
The CD and LP are now both in, so if you haven't stopped by the shop or put in an online order we are still waiting to hear from ya!

On What Heaven Is Like, Wussy continue their longstanding tradition of combining supernatural tales and workaday anthems, with inspirations that range from the monsters of urban legends to late-night public television viewing. The new record builds on the momentum of their prior two releases Attica! and Forever Sounds, with sonic and melodic nods to Springsteen, Mercury Rev, Unrest, Neu! and The Replacements, with songs at once devastating and hopeful. Highlights include a ballad for a beloved television heroine, a pair of covers by Kath Bloom and Twinkeyz, and a three-song suite inspired by Charles Burns' brilliant and ever-timely graphic novel Black Hole.

If you can't make it to the store, our online shop is open and eager to ship one to you! All previous Wussy albums are still in stock on CD and LP if you need to round out your collection.

The Devil Makes Three - Chains Are Broken
Chains Are Broken is the first album of original material in five years from Americana trio The Devil Makes Three, which resembles a dusty leather-bound book of short stories from some bygone era.

DeVotchKa - This Night Falls Forever
DeVotchKa's This Night Falls Forever is their most ambitious album to date, with more detailed arrangements and an overall bigger sound. From the record's first notes it's clear that it's a heartrending look backwards and forwards all at once.

Neil & Liam Finn - Lightsleeper
Father and son duo Neil and Liam Finn's new album Lightsleeper bursts with melody and the trademark euphoric flips that are Finn family trademarks.

Interpol - Marauder
Interpol's follow-up to 2014's El Pintor is their sixth studio album Marauder, this time teaming up with legendary producer Dave Fridmann. The band drew inspiration from funk and R&B drummers with the aim of making their new recordings swing.

Justice - Woman Worldwide
A new live studio recording of Justice's 2016 album Woman along with stand-out tracks from their ten year career.

Mark Lanegan & Duke Garwood - With Animals
With Animals is the new collaboration between Mark Lanegan and Duke Garwood, with an analog and dust-flecked sound that suggests the duo have been holed up in a 60's recording studio while the apocalypse rages outside.

Murder By Death - The Other Shore

On Nonpoint's tenth album, signature grooves hit with haymaker force bolstered by hip-hop cadences, thrashed-out six-string precision, and unshakable melodies.

Nothing's third full-length recording, Dance On The Blacktop, is the next chapter in the band's tumultuous story, pulling from all corners of life with a focus on the bleak and despairing.

The endlessly hummable signature melodies that Plain White T's are know for still shine at the center of their galaxy on new album Parallel Universe.

Rubblebucket - Sun Machine
Sun Machine documents the pain of Kalmia Traver and Alex Toth ending their romantic relationship, but the record emerges as an unbridled and often-euphoric celebration of their lasting connection.

Territories - Territories

Various Artists - High Times Presents: Smoke Signals Music From The Mother Plant, Volume 1
